What An Incredible Fluke XLVIII!

On May 16th 2009, we produced a post about which currently serving referee should take over running the referee's body, the PGMOB, when Keith Hackett retired that summer.

We suggested that, for an array of reasons suiting the powers-that-be, Mike Riley would be selected...
... and so he was.

Riley has presided over the most corrupted window in Premier League history.

Take the bias in favour of Manchester United - why does Sir Ferguson have such control over the selection of referees for games involving both Manchester clubs?

Well, Mike Riley's last four years as a referee should provide you with an answer.

On Manchester United matches, Riley helped the Reds to 11 wins, 3 draws and 0 defeats.
On Manchester City matches, Riley gave the Blues 1 win, 1 draw and 6 defeats.

So the man who selects Red referees for Red matches is himself a Red.

What a weird fluke!
