Manipulation in the Land of the Branded and Bland

I've only just realised why Sky remove the "time played" indicator from the screen for the re-run of the "full" game that is shown on Saturday night. It allows certain controversial visuals or commentaries to be edited.
On Saturday, I watched the Arsenal v Portsmouth game as there were several key sections of the game that I wished to monitor. One of these events was simply edited out. It never happened (apart from on the BBC highlights where Adebayor was certainly fouled in the area).
And, while on the subject of the Match of the Day, there has been pressure to tone down the criticism of officials on the programme. So at Wigan on Saturday, Walton was praised for giving a penalty that he could not possibly have seen (one of his assistant's corrected him and justice was seen to be done). While in the Villa v Bolton game where Clattenburg was dire, there was no mention at all post-match about the two key penalty decisions that decided the match.
Our trading team are expecting significantly increased volatility over the festive season in the Premiership and the refereeing will be a prime component of this randomisation process.
