Justice Not Even Seen To Be Done

When Germany discovered that the disgraced referee Hoyzer was manipulating football matches for a Croatian gambling syndicate, the Bundesliga entirely altered the structure of their national game and betting industry to close off such loopholes. This particular form of corruption will not happen again in Germany.
After Calciocaos and the relegation of Juventus, points deductions for four other teams and the banning of two referees, the Italians have directly addressed the illegal activities within Serie A. There are now 40 referees in Serie A and Moggiopoli would be more difficult in future.
And, with respect to the Financial Markets, compliance with the Sarbanes-Oxley law is creating some real accountability for American business in the shadow of Enron and WorldCom.
In England, the Premiership clubs informed PC Plod on November 9th that they were quite happy with the corruption riddled structure already in place. He acquiesced.
The most disturbing aspect about this whole charade is that the football authorities aren't even paying lip service to the issues that need to be addressed.
