The Rule of Three states that when things come in threes, they are inherently funnier, more satisfying and more effective than other numbers of things.
So Manchester United losing by three goals at home to both Manchester City & Newcastle United is funny.
As were the three major decisions Anthony Taylor & Jarred Gillett got wrong in the Wolves v Newcastle game, all to the benefit of the Saudi Arabian outfit.
Then there was the most amazing pull back in the history of Serie A when Cagliari recovered from 0-3 behind to beat Frosinone, except that it involved Ranieri and people running faster than they should and refereeing input from Pairetto...
... so not so special after all.
And there was the third man Coote in Stockley Park taking 5 and a half minutes to make a VAR call in Bournemouth v Burnley. The aim was to undermine VAR on behalf of his controller but the result was to make Mr Coote look foolish.
And step forward Scottish referee John Beaton who has given 9 penalties and three red cards in matches involving Rangers in the last six years. Every single decision was in favour of the Ibrox side including two penalties versus Hearts last weekend on an insider traded event.
He gave his third penalty of the week to Celtic in a standard response to crookery being exposed.
But.
Still.
In 6 years, 12-0 on Rangers events...
... 8-7 on Celtic.
Time for Mr Beaton to retire to the lodge.
